The United Hate-breeders of America
Ignorance is such an amazing thing. It permeates life here in the United States. I have to believe that it is elsewhere in the world, but the way it erodes society here, is just dauntingly unbelievable. Ignorance here is a weight that crushes souls and grinds civility to dust.
You can take this whole Chik-fil-A thing for a good example. Today I saw a bunch of Facebook posts of ‘good Christians’ cursing and using derogatory comments to defame and tell the gays of this world to die horrible deaths.... It honestly makes me ashamed to be a human when I see these things. How can there be such hate in this world, and people using such terminology as using ‘free speech’ as an argument. Freedom is freedom to do anything that’s not harmful.... Yet these people want to take freedom away from others....
But to the real ignorance part. AIDS is no longer a specifically homosexually transmitted disease. There are more heterosexuals in this world now with AIDS than homosexuals. Its obvious facts that you can easily look up.... Yet the steam roll effect of this gay marriage campaign on both sides has whipped up so much hate from Christians who talk so much about loving everyone as a whole....
I made a comment on that Facebook post of my friend’s that said, “ -=THIS=- is one of the main reasons I want the hell out of this country. Ignorance affects more people here than AIDS, Cancer, and Herpes combined, and its more deadly than driving drunk, killing sprees, and nuclear warfare....” And I honestly believe it, even if I don’t have stats to back it up. Ignorance combined with religion scares me more than anything I can even imagine, and I have a VIVID imagination....
I’ve dealt with ignorance all my life, and in the end, I’ve just had to put up with it. I’ve tried to separate myself from the pack as much as I can, but I can look at the conversations I’ve been pulled into in my life, and sometimes I just want to break down and cry. Especially when its so in your face everywhere. You just have to look at Fox or CNN with a clear eye...every time I see those channels, and the commentary they allow to be said on the air, it makes me feel hatred. Everything is so polarized and sad and convoluted.
But what can you do? I want to move away from this country so badly. Watching ignorance infiltrate the government has been one of the most distressing things I’ve ever witnessed. As representatives of the people, they play off fears and mistrust to get into office. As I watch people banter for votes, I still couldn’t tell you what any candidate really wants to give me. It just looks as if they are all out for themselves.
I remember a friend of mine, when there was bad news on the TV he’s always say, “Time to move to New Zealand!” Finally one day I asked him why he said it, and he replied, “Do you ever hear about New Zealand in the news?” And that’s when I realized the only cure for ignorance, to avoid it. I need to get away, get away from the hate on TV, the hate on the streets, the hate in this society. I’m to the point to where I think the majority of the United States simply breeds hatred. Sure there is a great amount of people and things to love here, but then...sometimes you can’t even see the Golden Gate Bridge because of the smog....
