Gender inequality?

Here’s an age old question, what are the differences between men and women? Would you be shocked if I said there really wasn’t any?

Yeah, I figured you would be, but hear me out. The only real difference is reproductive rolls. Besides that, what other difference is there? Well, the answer to that one is easy, most of the differences come directly from those reproductive rolls.

Both men and women are subject to hormonal levels. This is more obvious in women, with the menstrual cycle, but science definitely shows that men go through cycles of their own. Its pretty obvious when you think about it.

The other big difference is still related to those same rolls. Men and women are raised differently, because they are treated differently. Period. I’ve known women who were treated like boys growing up, and they are very masculine in their lives. Men who are raised femininly come out more feminine.

But, yes, there is a but, its obvious that gender rolls come from somewhere else besides being raised. There are women who change themselves into men, or men that change themselves into women, by surgery. Some people just NEED to feel ‘right’ in their own body. Part of this I can understand, but part is just too taboo for anyone to give credence to.

This feeling ‘right’ thing normally kicks in around puberty, when the hormones first really surface. Blue Lagoon is a great movie to see the effect on such a thing. Men respond to women in lustful ways because of hormones, and because their brains are wired to.

In the end, I just see it in life, how men and women are different, yet totally the same. Everyone has their same life goals, same wants, same needs. They all go about it different by how they were raised, not because of specific ‘traits’ bred into the different sexes. If you understand the hormones, you can understand the person, no matter the sex. Its just a shame that society places such different tactics upon the raising of boys and girls, since much of what was taught to my generation from the past generations was in what areas certain people were inferior to the other.... It is good to see how girls are being taught more and more that they are equal to, if not better than men in areas where their parents, and especially grand parents were taught the inferiority of the gender.

Anyways, this is just my opinion. Do you have an opinion on gender rolls? Are they based in fact, or biased, or just plain silly?
