The past always creeps in when you least expect it. I’ve always found it amazing how a coincidence will bring a new perspective on the past into view, just as you never wanted it to. Hindsight is always 20/20 they say, and its never more so the case than when something new comes to light.
Do you change your point of view, change your old memories? No, that’s never the case. Normally one just has to assimilate the information. The old memories are hard written into the brain. Nothing will change the warmth of the original memory, even if its become diluted by a sharp pain of new information.
The past is never what you remember though, they say that those that don’t remember are doomed to repeat, but what if you never knew the whole story? So many twists and turns in my own story that I can’t fathom that I knew all the stuff that happened. But that’s always better than getting slapped in the face by a lie that you believed the truth, or never even knew about.
The past is something I’ll always remember, it is what brought me to be who I am. A long novel, slowly being written as time slowly creeps on. You cannot simply rewrite the story of your life. You can add chapters, make new notations, and just keep turning the page to see how the story comes out. Time will inevitably keep marching forward to whatever end there is, all I can say is just enjoy the ride, and take new information, no matter how crazy, and be who you are, because nothing can change your soul.
Have you ever had a startling piece of info or an item from the past that ‘changed everything’ per say? I’d like to read some in the comments below.
