The Internet is Taking Over the World!

Just recently we decided to jump onto the Netflix streaming services.  Instantly I was amazed at the selection, but also dismayed at it.  It got me doing tons of research over which is the ‘best’ service.  But something happened somewhere along the way, and I realized a few things.

Fact is, the internet is taking over the world, isn’t it?  TV can practically be replaced with the right combination of streaming services.  Fact is, even streaming radio is a ton better than the repetitive crap that plays over the airways just about anywhere.

When we were driving from Florida back to Oklahoma, I wish we would have counted, but we heard the same six to eight songs over and over.  Luckily two of them were really good, but it burnt us out of music that hadn’t even gotten to the radio stations out of Fort Smith, AR.

But if you get on Spotify or Pandora, or any of the others, you’ll get an extremely wide variety.  Its pretty amazing when you get on it long enough, and it gives great suggestions.

But back to streaming video.  The biggest let down was how there really wasn’t any brand new movies.  Second was how most of the movies I want to watch aren’t on there, but some are.  Television shows are kind of hit and miss as far as what you can find.

Fact is, we still have tons to learn.  We will probably switch between services for their free months to figure out which we like best.  I know that Amazon one is tempting because of the extras you get.  Free 2day shipping and Kindle books for free?  Yeah, extremely hard to pass up.  It even looks like they have some kind of service that’s pay-per-view, but I haven’t really dug into it.

Hulu+ is great on the TV side, probably the best.  They are the ones that get some of the TV shows we watch right after they come out.  If regular Hulu streamed to the TV I’d be very satisfied with it, but alas, you have to have a subscription.  In the end, there’s no way I’m going to pay a service and have to watch commercials....

With so many options, its hard to really narrow them down, but hopefully, over the next few months we’ll make a bonefide choice.  The biggest problem is, I couldn’t find a site that had any real side by side view of the different selections, though there was some that went through the nitty gritty of all three, and some of the others.  Everything I read still says Netflix has the best catalog, even though movie companies keep pulling away from them.

If only there were a Redbox kiosk close by, I’d even try them.  Who knows what the months will bring, but expect and update from our home trials later, as we watch the internet take over our TV while we sit on the couch and enjoy it.
